Enchantment By Way Of The Baby Furniture Store

When I found out I was having a baby, one word came to me. I don't know if it was in a dream, or I read it somewhere, or had seen a Disney movie recently. I did feel a little dazed. And lucky. There were many factors, but there it was: enchantment.

As I strolled through the baby furniture store, daydreaming in this new way that was more real than it had ever been before (was that a kick?), I was drawn most of all to anything that resembled an enchanted woodland forest. I knew that this was the nursery I wanted.

Here are the treats the baby furniture store was just waiting to reveal:

1. The Glenna Jean Birds & Leaves Chandelier. Frankly, I would love this anywhere I saw it, it just happened to be in the baby furniture store and fit perfectly with my new theme of enchantment. I love that my baby will look up at soft light reflecting from the dangling crystals and the sweet birds perched, singing to him/her (we don't know the sex yet!)

2. Lambs & Ivy Enchanted Forest Wall Appliques. Well, it doesn't get much more enchanted forest than this. Raccoons, owls, squirrels, mushrooms dancing across the nursery walls. They're so sweet! I ran into the wall appliques first, and adore them, but it turns out that Lambs & Ivy has an entire enchanted forest line. I guess I know where the money I used to spend on drinks out with my girlfriends after work is going to go now.

Next trip to the baby furniture store, I'm thinking it's between their plush owl and the fawn hamper...

Hold Onto Your Chair Booster Seats

Remember sitting at the kids table at family events? This is around the time that when you were walking around a roomful of adults, it was eye-level with their knees. You were intrigued by the grown-up table. They laughed loudly at jokes you could only strain to hear, that would have remained a mystery if you could have heard. And yet, how you longed to sit among them, to feel so tall! It wasn't impossible, either, you knew this much. All you needed was a chair booster seat.

When you were that small, chair booster seats were hard plastic and slid across wooden chair surfaces. Like so much of what you'll find in a baby furniture store, they've been improved dramatically since then.

The bright, modern, flexible Mutsy chair booster seat pictured here allows your toddler to sit comfortably on the average grown-up chair, and a clever harness makes sure he's fastened safely.
Let him sit with you at the grown-up table once in a while. But mind your manners. Now that he's tall enough to see, he's watching it all.

Baby Carriage Strollers Have Come A Long Way

Baby carriage strollers have come along way from the pram J.M. Barrie imagined Peter Pan rolling off in. Not to mention that as mothers, we all know that if our baby's stroller started rolling away, we'd run right after it and catch it, end of story. Maybe not as exciting as Peter's adventures with the Lost Boys and Tinkerbell, but there you have it. End of story.

Here's another not-to-mention that I'll mention. Moms today are in great shape. Congratulations, ladies in the park, you are looking terrific strolling along oh-so-leisurely with those baby carriage strollers!

Did I say oh-so-leisurely? I must not be going to the same park I'm going to. The moms in my park make no mystery of how they keep in such excellent shape. They don't stroll by, they run by. Baby and all!

Jogger baby carriage strollers must be the best invention of the last twenty years. What a treat for baby, what freedom for mom. Or dad. I know. I see you out there with your tube socks, sweating through your T-shirt. And that's terrific, too.

Baby Bouncers and Rockers Keep Bubs Happy

Babies love to be nursed and rocked in their baby carriages strollers and cribs; but let’s face it – busy moms can’t always be there. That’s where baby bouncers and rockers come in. Your baby can happily rock away and keep occupied while you attend to other things.

Most baby bouncers and rockers today are motorized and come in a wide variety of styles, themes and colors. A good baby bouncer or rocker will be sturdy and have a safety restraint to keep your baby safe while he or she is rocking.

Choose a baby bouncer that is well padded to keep bub comfortable, but make sure the unit is lightweight and portable; you want to be able to easily move the bouncer from room to room and take it with you when you travel.

Motorized baby bouncers generally allow your baby to rock at adjustable speeds and calming vibrations, so you can find a setting that your baby likes. It’s also a good idea to choose a baby bouncer with an overhead toy bar and a sound feature, so your baby can rock to music.
